Mo-Sci Corporation celebrates 30th Anniversary

Jun 3

Mo Sci Corporation celebrated their 30th anniversary by showcasing their new "sister" company. The company's commemoration happily coincided with the fledgling company’s ribbon cutting, indicating its’ full production capacity.  Precision Materials is located in a new 22,000 square foot building adjacent to the original Mo-Sci building.  Such close proximity is a great advantage.  The new company will now supply Mo-Sci with all their raw material needs. Mo-Sci then converts the raw materials is into finished product for a diverse spectrum of Fortune 500 companies. Owning and managing the materials company also allows Mo-Sci to have tighter controls on production quality and quantity.

Precision Materials will also be providing processed glass materials to other companies in the industry across the country and internationally.

The ribbon cutting and recognition of the new company was only a part of the celebration. Over 300 people toured both Precision Materials and the Mo-Sci operations, where they were shown videos on the company’s newest products along with demonstrations of new bioglass production methods.

Dr. Delbert Day, the company’s founder, was on hand to celebrate with his son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Kim Day, grandson, Bret Day (who manages Precision Materials) and all the Mo-Sci employees. Dr. Day is responsible for Mo-Sci’s founding product, TheraSphere®, which is used to treat inoperable liver cancer.  At the time of his discovery, no other company would manufacture the glass sphere component.  Dr. Day used this situation to look at the larger picture and determine that if there were one or two companies that had special niche glass needs, then maybe there was enough need to support a small business.  From this vision, Mo-Sci Corporation was launched.

Today, Mo-Si Corporation has grown into one of the most successful small glass businesses in existence. And, while the number of traditional glass manufacturers in the U.S. continues to shrink, Mo-Sci continues to grow stronger and more diverse.  The company currently operates in a 50,000 sq. foot facility, but plans for an expansion of the building are underway.  Product demand and new product development is the catalyst for tripling the size of the company’s existing footprint.  Groundbreaking for the expansion is expected within the next few months.
